Abstract

The effect of the application of several organic amendments (municipal waste compost, CRSU; biosolid compost, CB; leonardite, LEO and leaf litter, LIT) and one inorganic amendment (sugar beet lime, EA) on pH, CaCl2-solubility and EDTA extraction of As, Cd, Cu, Mn, Pb y Zn from a polluted soil from the Aznalcóllar mine spill was studied. The effect of the amendments on the production and the trace elements extraction of Agrostis stolonifera L. was also studied. Amendments increased soil pH and decreased the concentrations of Cl2Ca-soluble Cu, Mn and Zn as well as EDTA-extractable As, Cu, Mn, Pb and Zn concentration. Biomass yields increased in soils amended with CRSU, CB, LEO and EA. Generally, plants from soils amended with CRSU, CB and EA showed lower As, Cd, Cu, Mn, Pb and Zn concentrations than the control plants.
