EFECTOS DE LA APLICACIÓN DE LODOS DE DEPURADORA EN LA RESTAURACIÓN DE SUELOS DE CANTERAS DE PIEDRA CALIZA SOBRE LA FERTILIDAD DE LOS SUSTRATOS

Abstract

The results of a retrospective study of sewage sludge application on minerals materials of restored open cut calcareous mines on Catalonia are presented. They are compared with the evolution of soils without any treatment and also with soils sowed with herbaceous species. The organic amendment improves critical properties necessaries for the revegetation successful on this edaphic material with low quality: best conditions of the pH values and both soil organic matter and available phosphorus increments. Moreover, physical characteristics related with the hydrologic behaviour of the substrates are also enhanced. The use of sewage sludge favours the development of the vegetation on the firsts phases of the restoration.
